Parents hear “REP trials” every year — but most don’t actually know what REP basketball means, or how to help their kids prepare for it. At ProBall, we see it all the time: players show up to REP trials unprepared, miss their shot, and end up discouraged.
This article is here to clear things up — so you and your child know exactly what REP is, how it works in Sydney, and how to start preparing before you’re ready.
What Does REP Actually Mean?
“REP” stands for Representative Basketball. It’s the highest level of competition for juniors before stepping into state and national teams. Playing REP means you’re representing your local association against other associations across Sydney and NSW.
It’s not just another comp — it’s a step up in skill, intensity, and commitment. REP players train harder, play against stronger competition, and put themselves on the pathway towards elite basketball.
REP Associations in Sydney
Some of the major REP associations around Sydney include:
-
Sydney Comets
-
Sutherland Sharks
-
Bankstown Bruins
-
Norths Bears
Each association runs their own trials, usually once a year, with limited spots available. Competition is fierce.
