At ProBall, we believe basketball should be fun, simple, and effective, especially for beginners. That’s why Coach Ben uses the Mario Bros Method to teach layups to young players.
What Is the Mario Bros Method?
The idea is simple: just like jumping in a video game, kids learn to “jump to the block” in rhythm, focusing on the correct steps without overthinking. This playful approach helps kids build muscle memory fast.
In a recent MiniBall session, Coach Ben worked with a 7-year-old who had been struggling with layup footwork. In less than 10 minutes, his steps, rhythm, and finishing all clicked, and most importantly, he was having fun.
Why It Works for Kids
✅ Easy to remember, “like Mario Bros!”
✅ Builds correct footwork without stress
✅ Turns learning into play
✅ Gives kids confidence when finishing at the rim
